Each attending family is requested to bring a covered dish vegetable or dessert.  Please RSVP if you plan to attend with the number of people attending so that sufficient entree is prepared to PGK Howard Harbes (281-342-9334 or hharbes@comcast.net)
SSMM Call for Help
Volunteers are needed to assist with clean up after funeral receptions. SSMM Ladies of the parish host the receptions and they need one person to complete clean up and take out the trash. You would be called a few days before the reception to see if you could help. Your name would be kept on an active volunteers' list and you would be called as needed.

So far there are (3) Brother Knights on the list but the more Brothers on the list, the better and your service time will not come around as often.  Note that this is usually a daytime exercise so being retired (or able to slip away for an hour or so) is a must.

Call  or e-mail Michael Spiech (281-937-0257(hm) or mcskhs@sbcglobal.net) to get added to the list.

A Request from State/Chapter
This past weekend, at the State Organizational Meetings, the State Charity Board of Directors got together and voted to provide a $1000.00 grant to each of the families of the 5 fallen Dallas officers and the 7 that were wounded.  The checks should be in the hands of the officer's families by tomorrow afternoon.  The money came out of the State Charities' Contingency Fund.  We have been asked to re-fill this contingency fund no later than July 31st.   Additionally, the State Charities Committee stated that any funds that they receive in excess of the restocking of the contingency fund would be divided up evenly and also sent to the families of the 12 fallen Dallas officers.  Brother Knights, I was in Dallas all weekend and that city is hurting and the families are really hurting.  After the State Charities board voted to send the checks out to the Dallas families, a roar went up from the crowd.  The entire contingent of State officers and Committee men and all of the other brother Knights from around the great State of Texas were on board with this decision.  Please discuss this with your Councils and see what you can do out of Council funds and also see what you can do regarding donations from the members directly.  Have all monies that you collect from the Council and from the members, combined into one check from the Council and have the FS send it in to Texas State Charities.  Be absolutely positive that you make the check out to "Texas State Charities" and not the Texas State Council.  I would also put a note on the memo line that it is for the "Contingency Fund".  By doing that, the money you expect to go to the Dallas Police Officer's families will actually get into their hands.  State Charities will have any excess funds that they collect from us, into the hands of the families of the fallen officers just days after the July 31st deadline.  Name me one other Charity that is this quick to help out!

Ron Frerich
District Deputy
District 76

FYI - Intent is to pass the hat at the July 26th Business meeting to get funds as requested above.  Our discretionary funds for unexpected expenditures are pretty well expended, but we will discuss voting on Council Funds to support.

A Message from Supreme - Pray for Peace
Following a week of violence across the United States, the Knights of Columbus has called for a novena of prayer to heal the wounds and divisions afflicting this country.

Knights, their families and all people of good will are encouraged to join in the novena (nine days of prayer) that will run from July 14-22 by praying St. Francis of Assisi's Prayer for Peace:

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace,
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy;

O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love.

For it is in giving that we receive;
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

"The violent episodes of the past week have shocked the conscience of our country," said Supreme Knight Carl Anderson. "Through this prayer, each of us has the opportunity to help transcend hatred and violence by personally committing to the concepts of love of neighbor, peace and forgiveness that are central to an authentic embrace of Christianity. It is our hope that, from coast to coast, those who pray this prayer will become true instruments of peace."

Supreme Chaplain Archbishop William Lori of Baltimore also urged people to join this prayer campaign: "During this Year of Mercy, let us pray for an end to violence and senseless killings," he said. "Through our prayers and good works, may we help build a society that is merciful, just and peaceful."
